PEAK: Program for Educationally Advanced Kids

The purpose of the RFSD PEAK Program is to advocate for challenge and inspire students by providing appropriate opportunities and support ensuring that they thrive both academically and socially-emotionally.

The Roaring Fork Schools are dedicated to recognizing and meeting the educational and emotional needs of gifted children. RFSD follows the gifted definition set by the Colorado Department of Education, "Gifted and talented children are those whose abilities, talents, and potential for accomplishment are so exceptional or developmentally advanced that they require special provisions to meet their needs," regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, or socioeconomic status.

Gifted Identification Process

Roaring Fork School District follows established procedures for the identification of gifted/talented students that align with state guidelines and the Exceptional Child Education Act (ECEA). Both formal and informal data are used in the collection of a body of evidence over time to substantiate a student’s talent and potential.

Students can be identified in the following areas:

  • General Intellectual Ability
  • Academic Ability (Reading/Writing/Science/Social Studies/Math)
  • World Language
  • Visual Arts
  • Creative and Productive Thinking
  • Leadership
  • Performing Arts (Drama/Theater)
  • Music
  • Dance

Identification is an ongoing process that is facilitated by the PEAK Coordinator in each building. Parents and caregivers can click here for a nomination form.
